What is a biomass boiler?
A biomass boiler is a heating appliance that uses renewable organic fuels such as wood to create hot water for heating various applications.
Can a biomass boiler be used to heat my whole business?
As long as you have chosen a boiler with an adequate heating capacity, you should be able to heat your whole site. Our GF engineers will complete a site survey before purchase and advise.
Do GF biomass boilers require much maintenance?
A biomass boiler works best when it is regularly maintained. Maintenance includes cleaning and de-ashing, visual checks and annual boiler services. A full list of maintenance requirements will be given to the customer after purchasing a GF boiler.
What is the life-span for a GlenFarrow biomass boiler?
A GF biomass boiler average life-span is 10-20 years with correct maintenance and upkeep.
Can a biomass boiler be retrofitted to an existing heating system?
Yes – biomass boilers can be both retrofitted to an existing system or installed as a new system.
Can a biomass boiler be used for hot water as well as heating?
Yes. A GF biomass boiler can be used for both hot water and heating.
What warranty comes with a GlenFarrow biomass boiler?
New biomass boiler warranty lasts for three years.
Can I still receive RHI payments with biomass boilers?
The non-domestic RHI has now ended for new biomass boilers. However, there is an option to purchase second-hand boilers that are already accredited to the RHI and take over the remaining tariff. Take a look at our ‘Pre-owned biomass boilers’ page for more details.
I would like to change my biomass boiler but keep my RHI payments. Is this possible?
Changing your biomass boiler but keeping your existing RHI tariff is now possible under new ‘Plant Replacement’ legislation.
How long will a GlenFarrow biomass boiler service take?
We recommend that you allow a full day for your biomass boiler service.

What materials can I dry in a GF kiln?
GlenFarrow offers a wide range of drying kilns to suit different drying materials. We also offer bespoke drying systems which involves optimising a kiln for specific materials.
What heating system do I need for a GF drying kiln?
Our kilns are compatible with biomass, gas, LPG and oil fired systems. We highly recommend using a biomass boiler as your kiln’s source of heat as you can potentially utilise your site’s by-product for fuel – making this option the most cost-effective and sustainable heat source.
What is the standard size of GlenFarrow drying kilns?
Majority of our dryers have their equipment installed within a 40ft container. However, GlenFarrow is uniquely positioned to create bespoke drying kilns to meet any size requirements.
