The requirement:
The client required a replacement for their aging open flue gas boilers. The project, initiated in 2023, aimed to address several concerns. The existing system consisted of nine old boilers that were inefficient and had obsolete parts.
The client wanted to still meet the required heat output of 3400kW, whilst utilising the existing plant room building and as much of the current pipework as possible. The existing boilers played a crucial role in pre-heating gas for an industrial plant, and the installation had to be completed within a planned shutdown period during the summer.
Our solution:
To meet the client’s needs effectively, we developed a solution that reduced the number of boilers from nine to six while still exceeding the required heat output. Our team of qualified engineers carried out the installation, delivering a complete turnkey solution for both mechanical and electrical work. The new system significantly improved heating efficiency by reducing gas consumption by over half, leading to substantial energy cost savings and a shorter payback period for the client.
The replacement boilers are highly efficient condensing units, providing greater energy savings compared to the previous open flue system. The new boilers are constructed from durable stainless steel, enhancing longevity and reliability, whereas the older units were made of cast iron. This project marked one of the largest plant room replacements undertaken by GlenFarrow.
What the client said:
“We recently had GlenFarrow replace our 9 obsolete, 20-year-old boilers with 6 new units. This upgrade has significantly reduced our gas usage by two-thirds, leading to substantial fuel savings and lower emissions. The entire project was expertly managed by GlenFarrow, and their team of highly qualified and proficient workers demonstrated exceptional knowledge of gas heating systems. We are extremely satisfied with the results and highly recommend GlenFarrow for their outstanding service and expertise.”
